User & Behavioral Research

Using a combination of point-of-use observation and interview techniques, we analyze and profile who your users are, how they use your product today, and what they need going forward. Whether radiologists, ER nurses, lab techs, or patients, user studies provide practical insights into product usage and requirements, and lay the groundwork for insights into product usage and design.

Solves These Problems

How do we make sure what we are building is something clinicians will actually want to use? Do we have the right product feature set?
Our users often complain about usability, but what are the major issues?
Users tell us we need this function, but how would they actually use it?
Everyone has an opinion about how to improve our product, but how do we get beyond opinions?

Types of User Research Studies

Telephone interviews
Focus groups
Point-of-use interviews and observation in hospitals, clinics, and patient homes

Benefits

Provides accurate and detailed profiles of target users: not just who they are, but the where, when, and why of what they do.
Prioritizes product features and functions based on actual use-patterns.
Identifies missing or unused features.
Identifies usability issues with existing products.
Feeds directly into the development of use cases and object models.
Validates design inputs as per QSR Design Controls.
Point-of-use studies identify requirements based on what people do, not simply what they say.

Our Approach

We conduct one-on-one telephone interviews, focus groups, and point-of-use studies, depending upon the needs of the project. We’ll conduct a kickoff meeting with your team, and work with you to develop a study protocol and screen and recruit study participants. Depending upon the scope of the investigation, we’ll “meet” with 15-30 target users, over a 2-3 week period. We’ll then analyze and synthesize our observations, create user profiles and task models, summarize and present key insights, and document the study for inclusion in your design history file.

Deliverables

User Profiles & Task Models, Key Insights Presentation, Written Report for inclusion in your design history file.
