Our Team

The Human Factors MD team consists of:


Tim Reeves, Ph.D., CHFP

Tim is an experienced human factors professional with 16 years commercial experience evaluating and designing usable, effective, and safe medical and scientific devices. He has applied human factors analysis and techniques to the evaluation and design of medical products across a range of clinical applications including radiology, surgery, and in vitro diagnostics. He has conducted numerous research and evaluation projects including needs assessments, concept feasibility studies, competitive reviews, and usability tests; defined and coordinated multicenter clinical trials for investigational devices; and led multidisciplinary product development teams.

As with all members of the Human Factors, MD team, Tim brings a valuable mix of skills to any project. Prior to founding Human Factors MD Inc., Tim spent several years consulting to, and working for, medical device manufacturers. He was Director of Medical Systems for the consulting firm Human Factors International, Director of Marketing for the Surgical Navigation Specialists, and Director of Clinical Development for Cedara Software. As Director of Clinical Development, Tim established Cedara's Human Factors Program, and was responsible for regulatory clearance internationally. He began his career as a Human Factors Engineer with IBM after obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Tim is a Certified Human Factors Professional.


Paul W. Smith, Ph.D.

The most recent addition to the Human Factors MD team, Paul brings more than 18 years experience researching, designing and evaluating software user interfaces. Much of Paul's professional career was spent with IBM , where he co-founded the User-Centered Design methodology now practiced across IBM software development. He also spent several years within IBM's Center for Advanced Studies researching topics in computer-human interaction. Paul is the author of several well-known papers in the field, and is a member of the ACM's Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction.

Paul received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, where he currently moonlights teaching courses in user interface design.


Wayne Fisher, CHFP

Wayne has over 20 years experience designing both technology solutions and work environments. He is a member of the Association of Canadian Ergonomists, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (US), and the Usability Professional Association, and is a Certified Human Factors Professional. He is also the co-author of a number of published papers on technology adoption and teaches courses in human factors at the Ontario College of Art and Design.

Wayne has a graduate degree in Applied Psychology, specializing in Human Factors and Ergonomics.


Aldous Silva

Prior to joining Human Factors MD, Aldous spent several years in progressive positions in production management for the creative design and online industry. His portfolio includes creative design for print, internet, and software user interfaces for companies in the medical, scientific, and pharmaceutical industries. He holds a Diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College.
